Memorial Tours & Services ...
The Borneo Exhibition Group WA Inc (BEG) organise memorial tours to Sabah and
Sarawak each year to coincide with ANZAC Day and Sandakan Memorial Day (15th
August). These tours generally cater for groups of between 20 - 60 people. Other
tours can be arranged at anytime for groups and/or individuals upon request.
The BEG tour experience includes visits to the original prisoner of war camp sites, the
Commonwealth War Cemetery on Labaun, and other places of importance that are
connected with the Sandakan Story. Pilgrimage tours can also include the Albert
Cleary Memorial in Ranau and the Kundasung Garden Memorial at the foothills of Mt
Kinabalu.
BEG began organising tours for Memorial Dedications and ANZAC Dawn Service
activities in Sandakan since 2000. A service was conducted in 2005 with official
representation from the Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur. The first
Australian Government service was held in 2007 and was attended by the Premier of
Western Australia (serving), Mr Alan Carpenter.
The success of these formal arrangements initiated by BEG now allows the ANZAC
Service to become an Annual National event facilitated by the Office of the Australian
War Graves in Canberra.
Costs include all air-fares, transfers, taxes, accommodation and most meals for the
duration of the tour. Groups are escorted at all times by guides that understand the
cultural sensitivities and customs of the host Nation and it's people, to ensure your
experience is enjoyable, relaxing and safe.
